1Absolute garbage!
By bbqb4racin
I have wasted the last 2 days with this tablet! Wait, let me rephrase that. I have had 2 of these junk tablets in the last 2 days. Constant reboots, constant screen recalibrations, touch screen hardly works, I could go on! I will waste no more time! Back this second one goes and I will NEVER touch this brand again! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! BTW, If I could rate this product a "0" star rating I would!

4It's great for what it is!
By Sivart Eel
A couple of things to clear up right away:

1. Screen resolution is 800x600 (125 ppi), which is worse than the the listed 1024x600.
2. It has a single core ARM A8 processor, which is worse than the listed dual core ARM A9.

While disappointing to find this out, I didn't find either item detrimental enough while using the tablet to return it or rate it poorly.

On to the review! (I will try to cover some things I was wondering about pre-sale)

This tablet fits niceley in the gap between my desktop computer and laptop, while not costing a small fortune to buy it. I'm rating it at 4 stars, since it's not perfect, but is pretty great considering the cost ($121 shipped new for me). The tablet runs Android 4.0... Ice Cream Sandwich, which is a definite step up from the Android 2.1 system my smartphone runs. In all honesty, I quickly flashed a custom ICS rom to the tablet using Arctools in order to get full access to Google Play within the first 10 minutes of having the tablet, so I can't speak to how well Appslib works. The flash was quick and painless, taking only minor input from me.

Screen:
I was concerned about the pixel density of this unit (125 ppi), and found myself looking at my smartphone a lot (180 ppi) and thinking to myself - how crappy is 125 ppi going to look? Well I will admit I am pleasantly surprised in that the Arnova 8 g3 (800x600) looks very good. Not great (like Apple's retina display), but small text is still sharp and App icons do not look pixelated. The screen is a 4:3 ratio (like Ipad), and this provides a much better viewing experience in my opinion for web browsing than the 16:9 ratio screens. The size is also perfect for me - easily able to hold in one hand, and can view web pages without having to do a lot of scrolling and zooming. I did copy a 1280x720 video on to the tablet, and it played great with no stuttering. I have not tried to view a full 1920x1080 video, but from what I've read this tablet will play those videos fine. The touch screen is capacitive, which means things like pinch zoom and multi-touch are supported. Capacitive isn't as accurate as resistive screens though, and I find that occasionaly touches are not quite precise on this unit.

Storage:
Comes with 4 gb total space, but a good bit of that is ate up by operating system, etc. My unit has 500 mb reserved for apps, with most apps supporting copy to SD card (I haven't had to do that yet). Then I have around 2 gb free for content (music, videos, docs, etc.). Coming from my HTC Droid smartphone (which has around 150 mb reserved for apps), the 500 mb for apps seems huge to me! I'm sure other tablets support more storage, but again, this is a budget tablet. There is a micro-SD slot, so you could add up to an additional 32 gb. My pet peeve about it is that when a card is inserted, it sticks out from the unit, less than a 1/16", but enough that it's not flush and you feel it with your hand (because the slot is on the side where you grip the tablet in landscape mode). Some micro-SD slots have ports that are spring loaded, so the card sits flush. This unit doesn't have that type of port unfortunately. I've found that it's easy for the micro-SD to fall out too, so I wouldn't recommend leaving one in permanently. My plan is to dedicate a micro-SD card to this tablet, and only put media files on it (i.e. don't copy apps to the micro-SD card), and then only put the card in when I'm watching a video, listening to music, etc.

Wifi range:
It's good. Some reviews of other tablets scare you into thinking you have to sit right next to your router in order to get a decent Wifi signal. Not true of this tablet thankfully. I haven't tested the limit with a tape measure haha, but I have been several rooms away from my router, with many walls and electronics between, and still have full signal strength.

Battery life:
This could be better. I am getting around 3 hours with use that involves web browing and playing games. I could see the unit as able to approach 5 hours if Wifi was turned off and you were reading an e-book - maybe.

Performance:
I haven't run benchmark tests, but I'm sure this one isn't a burner. Like I said above, it's a single core processor, but does get 1 gb of RAM. I find the unit loads web pages quickly, Google play runs fast, and apps have been quick too. For example, one app I use is 1 Tap Cache Cleaner, which quickly scans all of your apps' caches, calculates their size, and prompts you to clear them. On my smartphone with half of the apps my tablet has, it takes 10 seconds to do all of this. On the Arnova tablet, it takes maybe 2 seconds. Not exactly a scientific comparison haha, but I just want to say that I doubt you'll find yourself disappointed with this tablet's peformance.

Wrap up:
It's a great tablet for what it is. There seem to be a lot of low end Android tablets on the market now, and I'd be surprised if they're all as good as this one.

Thanks!

3Its....just ok
By Zebramall
This tablet is just ok, it works. Pros: 1GB Ram, ICS 4.0.3, Pretty good speaker with (Volume +). Cons: Poor battery life (3hrs at most), does not respond to all touches. Mine had 4GB space but really only 2gb space for apps. It is a budget tablet. I know not to expect a ipad. I could spend a little more to buy a better tablet and get better battery life and more storage. It is good for browsing web and email. I would not use to listen to music. If you want to watch movies, have it plugged in. To root it, it is easy to get google play store on it with Arctools. One reason I seem to gravitate towards Archos and Arnova is they have nice screens, the resolution is not the greatest but the screen itself seems nice glass. Some other budget ones look like plastic.
