4It's wafer thin...
By John Buckingham
Viewsonic makes quality video projectors and computer monitors, but isn't known for its computer products. The ViewPad E100 might change that a bit. It features a bright, color accurate display with good resolution in a very light, thin package. Speed isn't great when used with my Sprint mobile hotspot, but the E100 does get the job done for Web surfing (although don't expect smooth video streaming). In a nutshell:

PROS:

1. Lightweight, attractive design

2. Very good, bright screen image with rich color rendition and crisp image quality

3. Responsive touch control

4. Android OS, with access to apps via Amazon App Store

5. Kindle access

6. Clear speakers

7. Easy navigation

8. MicroSD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB

CONS

1. Slightly flimsy construction - the frame creaks when the E100 is handled, and the back cover feels very thin.

2. 4GB RAM is fine for a few apps but can't handle many running at once

3. Slow for some Web applications.

4. Battery life isn't stellar.

All in all, for a budget tablet to be used mainly for casual Web browsing, game playing and e-book reading, the ViewPad E100 does what I want it to do (although better video streaming would be sweet, but that might be the fault of my Sprint Web access device). The image quality is quite good for a tablet at this price point - as one would expect from a company specializing in monitors and projectors - and makes using the E100 a pleasure. It's a good beginner's device, so approach it from that angle if you decide to give the ViewPad a go.

4Good product for the money
By Gary
So far, the product is enjoyable to use. I am replacing a notepad that passed away. I think my needs will be met to my satisfaction. The user's guide is not well done and is incomplete. I will continue to call customer care for advice and answers to my questions as a new user.
