Very Impressive and I like it !
By A. Whitney
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RF44HTPK5AT90 This is the 1st tablet I have purchased. I have seen many others but waited 2 years for a 13"+ screen. As an electrical engineer, I am very critical in my reviews to products pertaining to quality and specifications. So here are my findings:
- The screen is crystal clear and colors are outstanding. I love reading pdf, doc, epubs, movies, etc.. on this tablet because of the size
- Wifi works perfectly
- Product is as stated with one error, the OS is NOT Android 3.0 (Honeycomb); it is ANDROID 4.1 Jelly Bean
- Touch screen works perfectly. No delays and no problems
- Battery duration is good. I played the movie Titanic (3hrs 15 min) and only used 33% of the battery
- Connection to PC via USB is excellent
- Speakers are week but usable (see below "update 10/31/2013" note below to correct). When using ear plugs the sound is perfect and can be as loud as needed. NOTE: use only good quality ear plugs to get all the bass and mid range and treble
- MUST update all apps before using when you 1st get the product out of the box!
- YES its a big boy and takes getting use to the large size but its not that heavy
- SKYPE works great as well as mail, internet, chat, etc....... Cameras are excellent. Mic is excellent
- NO bluetooth, that's a con
- Power plug is one single male plug, this is great!
- Price is fair and reasonable
- Case design is very professional and high quality.
As far as I am concerned its a good product and can be used for many things including business needs
Hope you enjoy it. I do
PS. The marketing statement "A shared family calendar.... can turn into the 21st century replacement for your refrigerator calendar... leaving messages on the fridge is a thing of the past" is the most hysterical thing I have ever read. I have always been concerned with marketing people as I am forced to work with them but now this just validates my opinion that these people are really out to lunch and in a world far far away from reality. Try using this as your refrigerator calendar. If successful, you are truly a unique breed of humanity!
UPDATE 5/16/2013:
- Amazon and other distributors state "Expandable via micro SDHC Slot up to 32 GB". Manufacture web site states "Expandable via micro SDHC Slot up to 64 GB" and also on the box states "micro SD slot up to 64GB".
UPDATE: 7/12/2013
PROBLEM: Familypad 2 says "Damaged Storage" when using a brand new 64GB card
SOLUTION: You must format the card to FAT32 format using one of several free programs (from the internet). NOTE: Formating will take a few hours! Also, WINDOWS CANNOT DO THIS FORMAT WITH A COMMAND PROMPT or VIA DISK MANAGEMENT.
Wikipedia mentions the following about SDXC card compatibility with SDHC
"SDXC host devices accept all previous families of SD memory cards. Conversely, SDHC host devices accept SDXC cards that follow Version 3.0, since the interface is identical, but the following issues may affect usability: SDXC cards are pre-formatted with Microsoft's proprietary and patented exFAT file system, which the host device might not support. Since Microsoft does not publish the specifications of exFAT and its use requires a non-free license, many alternative or older operating systems do not support exFAT for technical or legal reasons. The use of exFAT on some SDXC cards may render SDXC unsuitable as a universal exchange medium, as an SDXC card that uses exFAT would not be usable in all host devices. Since the FAT32 file system supports volumes up to the SDXC's maximum theoretical capacity of 2 TB as well, a user could reformat an SDXC card to use FAT32 for greater portability between computers (or devices). FAT32-formatted SDXC cards can be used in a host device built for SDHC if the host device can handle 64 GB and larger volumes. SDHC host devices do not test the new capability bits defined for SDXC 4.0 cards and thus cannot use the new features of SDXC, such as transfer speeds above UHS104 (104 MB/s)."
UPDATE 10/31/2003
Bought a "SILM / ACCURATE / FINE POINT / THINNER BARREL Capacitive Stylus/styli Universal Touch Screen Pen for Tablet" and tried it on the Familypad 2. It works 50% of the time. DOES NOT work for writing notes or memos but sort of works for drawing (skips often if drawing a line. Archos offers a stylus accessory on their web site and I have not tried this item.
Also, FOUND A WAY TO BOOST the volume of the 2 back speakers (2x volume). Load the app called "Music Volume EQ" (its free) and set volume to 100, and have it start automatically when you turn on the tablet (I leave it up to you to learn how to do this); OR, you can also Turn on the Equalizer in what ever the player program your using and set volume/s to near +15 dB gain. Also give "MX Player" app a try, you will be impressed - and use under settings all "S/W decoder" options!
Still, at this time, VERY happy with this product. Use it every day.
UPDATE: 11/17/2013
TAKE A LOOK AT MY VIDEO REVIEW FOR THE: HANNSPREE 13.3-INCH QUAD CORE TABLET PC T7 SERIES
Also, according to a professional product review site on the web, the Familypad 2 is listed with a "... Arnova FamilyPad FCC pictures, it looks like the tablet contains a 3 cell, 10,500 mAh battery" as shown with the product dissected with photos of the internal components. THAT WOULD EXPLAIN why its a heavier tablet and with a 10hr continuous video playback capacity.
UPDATE 11-18-2013

I am using this FamilyPad 2 for reading sheet music.
By B. Torres
I've put all my sheet music on this tablet using mobile sheets and I LOVE IT! It's light, feels well made and is snappy! Before this, I had a toshiba thrive 10.1, and now it seems small in comparison! LOVE IT! Fits nicely on a music stand and has plenty of space for apps. If you are a musician, I can't recommend this enough! You'll never want to use regular sheet music again.

Could be great, but has odd problems
By Clovis
Testing out 13.3 tablets by Archos (this one) and Kocaso (M1400).
The strangest "problem" with this tablet is that it does not include Bluetooth capability (unlike the Kocaso). That is a very strange omission by Archos that doesn't seem to make any sense. This unit and the Kocaso look almost exactly alike (save for cosmetic details) and appear to have the same board (hardware specs are identical from what I have seen, USB and other ports are in exactly the same place on both units). I would imagine that the bluetooth connectivity isn't available in hardware, although it could be that Archos decided not to enable it in firmware.
One other very strange problem - every time the unit is rebooted, it changes its WiFi's MAC address. Someone else noticed this and posted in one of the user forums, and I have confirmed my unit exhibits the same behavior. Obviously a *really* bad bug which makes it impossible to put the unit in a WiFi router's MAC access filter, or to register it in any company/school/university system that requires MAC addresses to be registered.
The form factor is great for those that need a large screen. But for those of us looking for a large tablet to display music scores, the lack of bluetooth connectivity means one cannot use a page turning device like the Airturn. The Kocaso is cheaper and allows for that kind of connectivity, although it too has its own quirks (the MAC address doesn't change on the Kocaso, however).
So far, I have not been able to find a stylus that works with either of these units. Finger works OK, but it seems that styli do not trigger enough pixels to register the touch. A tablet of this size would be great for note taking, but until a stylus can be found that works well, handwriting on it isn't ideal.
