Acer Iconia-Buy it? Heck Yes!
By Graham Marshall
So I've been fishing around for a tablet for a while. The iPad is too expensive and too restrictive. The kindle fire is too underpowered. The Acer Iconia is the sweetspot. Get the 32GB microSD and you are golden. When you first start it up it asks you to connect to your wifi and then you do your product registration straight from there. Everything works beautifully.
VIDEO
-This thing plays video well for a tablet. It works well with .avi's and .mp4's. It looks like there is a slight frame rate difference between when I am playing the video file on my pc vs. my iconia, but its not distracting enough to be a deterrent and is to be expected with the hardware difference. Games are beautifully rendered and "Angry Birds" is a good foray into how great this thing plays.
AUDIO
-The external audio is clear and loud enough for most purposes and if its not loud enough for you the audio jack works well and plays sound appropriately to headphones.
MEMORY
-Once again I want to stress getting a 32GB microSD card for your tablet, if you are using this thing for music/video/ and apps 8GB internal very quickly fills up. For reference I'm using[...] . This is a great SD card. The Iconia does have a full USB port on the side. For quick storage this is fantastic. I am able to plug my flash drive into the side and the Iconia will play movies/pictures/audio straight from it without needing to transfer to the on device memory. Fantastic.
BATTERY
-The battery is good, not great. Usually I am getting around two days with light use and 12-14 hours with medium use. The battery charges in about 4 hours, but I can say that the thing doesn't get hot or anything so that is a plus.
SCREEN
-The screen is bright and crisp, but can be scratched just like anything else. Would recommend buying a screen protector to ease that issue. Unlike the 7" Iconia viewing at any angle with this screen yields a good picture and the colors are perfect.
BUTTONS
-They definitely looked at how a person is holding this tablet when they designed it. Buttons are well placed and out of the way. The buttons logically make sense and buttons like volume, gyro lock, and power just make sense.
OS
-Its Honeycomb. The UI is logical and useful. You are given three desktops to put all your junk on and it makes sense to have them. Not so much an OS function but the amazon marketplace makes it insanely simple to download and run an app. Browser speed is efficient and swift, of course how a page is loaded as always is dependent upon your wireless router and internet speed, but with just my 7mbps internet, pages load very quickly and downloads are fast.
Finale: I would recommend this tablet. Its easy to use, does most of the day to day functions that most people would use it for(browsing, games, video, etc). I have given this tablet to my wife who is not a technological baby, but not a whiz either. She has picked it right up and is in love with it. She loves all the Android apps available out there and many are available for free. Buy this tablet? Heck Yes!
P.S- Apps I would recommend to start with:
Netflix(Runs great, use it all the time)
Meebo(Great multi messenger app that runs smoothly)
Angry Birds(Yes I know, everyone loves it, but its with reason)
Grocery IQ(So not everyone brings their tablet to the grocery store, but if you're looking for a grocery list app that is simple and awesome check it out)
Kindle for Android(Just nice)

So far so good
By Brian
This is the newest version of the Acer Iconia - believe it just came out in November, 2011. So far I really enjoy it - it seems very well-built, and the newest version of Andriod runs very smooth on it. The screen looks fantastic, and I like the fact it is 10" instead of 7" - it makes it much easier to navigate, browse the web, etc. The price is also pretty attractive compared to such tablets as the ipad, etc. If you can find this tablet for less than three seventy-five or so, it's a bargain. I didn't think I'd be one to get a tablet, but after seeing this in a store and then finding the best price on Amazon, I'm amazed at how much time I spend with it. It really is a truly awesome machine!

my first tablet
By Dave H
About me: I am in my 40s and have been using computers for a long time. However, I don't consider myself a tech savvy person. I'm a user, not a programmer. I don't know how to root phones, and I usually call someone for advice. So far I'm happy with this product. It's my first real tablet, and I think it can compare with some of the bigger brands. It's easy to use, the setup and registration was easy, and there are plenty of apps and functions to explore.
I like the screen layout. It's easy on the eyes. The calibration is spot on. I can't complain about the touch screen capabilities.
The organization of the apps and folders make sense. For example, the media apps are where they should be. There's a social app folder. I'm sure there are other ways to organize the apps, but I'll keep it simple for now.
The Iconia comes with several nice apps. I have explored and used a few. The reading or book app is actually really nice. I've already downloaded a free book and sampled the app. I do not have an e-reader, but my wife has a Kindle. It's very comparable.
My brother-in-law has an Iconia 32gb and likes it. He's the guy I call for PC issues and tech advice, so I feel like I made a good choice with this Iconia.
I can't think of any cons to this tablet. I'm impressed with what it can do for me. I would recommend this tablet for new and intermediate users.
